We’re proud to announce that the first of five phases of the Copthall Ventilation Shafts project in Ruislip is officially underway – and off to a flying start.

Our experienced team is hard at work, collaborating with SCSJV to install galvanised covers and striking CorTen cladding to the newly constructed ventilation shafts. This marks the beginning of an ambitious, multi-phase project that will play an important role in ensuring long-term safety, efficiency, and durability for this essential infrastructure – and another example of how SGS delivers high-quality architectural steel and glass solutions.

Why Ventilation Shafts Are Essential

Ventilation shafts are a vital part of modern infrastructure. They:

  • Ensure the safe circulation of air in underground environments.

  • Help regulate temperature and reduce humidity.

  • Provide emergency smoke extraction and improve overall safety.

  • Contribute to the operational efficiency of transport and utility networks.

By combining robust galvanised materials with architectural CorTen finishes, our work not only protects the structure from environmental wear but also enhances the visual appeal of these critical installations – demonstrating the value of architectural steel and glass solutions in large-scale infrastructure projects.

SGS Expertise in Action

At SGS, we specialise in combining strength, precision, and design across all our projects. For the Copthall Ventilation Shafts, our role goes beyond installation – it’s about ensuring that every element meets the highest standards of safety, resilience, and design.

Our work on this project reflects our commitment to:

  • Durability – using corrosion-resistant materials like galvanised steel.

  • Aesthetic design – applying bold CorTen cladding for a modern, industrial finish.

  • Collaboration – working seamlessly with partners such as SCSJV to deliver excellence at every stage.

This project is a strong showcase of SGS’s ability to deliver architectural steel and glass solutions that combine engineering performance with striking architectural detail.

Looking Ahead

With the successful launch of Phase One, the Copthall Ventilation Shafts project is progressing with confidence. Over the coming months, the SGS team will continue delivering high-quality installations across all five phases, ensuring this critical infrastructure is built to last.

We take pride in tackling technically challenging and large-scale projects. The Copthall scheme is another example of how our expertise in architectural steel and glass solutions is shaping safer, stronger and more efficient environments across the UK.
